Course Syllabus

Description:

The purpose of this course is to gain a basic understanding of algebra, continuing from pre-algebra.

Disclaimer:

Math content builds on previous information learned. It is expected of you to remember what was learned in previous math courses. In addition, you are required to not only learn the content taught in this class for chapter tests, but also to retain that information for future use. An excellent way to do this and stay organized is to have a notebook and folder or a binder to keep all papers and notes together. You may choose the method that works best for you, but if organization is an area you struggle with, I would be happy to help and offer some suggestions.

Topics To Be Covered:

The goal will be to address each of these topics, however, due to time constraints and prioritizing this list is subject to change.

§ Expressions, Equations, and Functions

§ Properties of Real Numbers

§ Solving Linear Equations and Inequalities

§ Graphing Linear Equations and Functions

Grading Scale:

This class will follow the school grading scale and policies

   A  100 – 93
   B   92 – 85
   C   84 – 77
   D   76 – 70
   F    69 – 0

The overall grade will be broken down according to categories

Level1 - Tests/Quizzes 70%

Level2 - Projects/ In-Class Assignments 20%

Level3 – Homework  10%

Tests/Quizzes:

This course builds a foundation for any future math work you will do in high school and beyond. It is essential that you know and retain this knowledge. To best aid you and your learning, you will be allowed to retake any test or quiz (other than the final exam) you would like the chance to perform better on. However, you must schedule the retake with me in advance and within a reasonable time period (the specifics will be determined based on the school schedule) of the original assessment.

Late Work:

Late work will be accepted for a maximum of 50% of the original assignment grade. All late work for a given chapter must be turned in on the day of that chapter test. After that point it will not be accepted!
