Welcome to the Wattsburg Area School District’s

Student Support Services Homepage

Wattsburg Area School District strives to provide a variety of support services to the students in the school district. These services range from on-going teacher interventions within the classroom environments, to pull-out services and programs, and building level teams to provide support. The goal of the support services is to give students the supports, programs, and services that they need to be successful within school environments. The following is a brief description of the support services that are available within the Wattsburg Area School District.

Building Level Team:

There are building level teams at each of our schools. The teams consist of building adminstrators, representative from special education, guidance counselor, mental health specialist and other members as needed for each student. The goal of the team is to discuss any student who is referred to the team for difficulty in school academically, socially, or behaviorally. The team works to develop interventions that may be effective in supporting the student in the school environment.

Student Assistance Program (SAP):

The primary goal of the Student Assistance Program (SAP) is to help students who are experiencing academic and/ behavioral difficulities that are barriers to the student’s ability to be successful in the learning environment. SAP provides support in each building for students and their families. Services that students may receive through SAP are; mental health assessments/referrals, individual counseling, group counseling, and/or a referral to drug and alcohol counseling.

Special Education:

Wattsburg Area School District ensures a Free Appropriate Public Education is available to all students who are eligible for special education. Every student with a disability enrolled in the Wattsburg Area School District shall be provided with quality education programs that meet the student’s needs for educational, instructional, transitional, and relate services. The district’s special education programs shall be designed to comply with state and federal regulations, aligned with school district goals, and will integrate special education programs within the regular education curriculum and environment in the least restrictive environment as possible.

Section 504:

Wattsburg Area School District complies with state and federal regulations to provide a free appropriate education to students who qualify for services under Chapter 15 regulations and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. The district develops individual plans for eligible students with disabilities to ensure their access to the school and classroom environment, curriculum and other areas as determined reasonable by the team and the parents.

Gifted Education:

Wattsburg Area School District recognizes the need to develop, enrich, and enhance the special abilities of each student and provides Gifted Education services and appropriate instructional programs designed to meet the individual needs of students who identified as gifted. The district develops individual plans for students who are gifted based on student’s strengths and interests. The district has a Discovery program for students in 2nd through 8th grade, where a teacher of the gifted enhances and enriches the learning of the students who are gifted. High school students who are gifted may participate in Honors and Advanced Placement courses, Regional Choice Initiative, and Dual Enrollment.
