Welcome to Fourth Grade!

Dear Families,

My name is Ms. Bucceri, and I am very eager to be your child’s fourth grade teacher this year!  Your child will be learning many new things this year with a fantastic group of students. All academic skills are aligned to the Pennsylvania Core Standards. Along with rigorous and interesting academics, your child will learn many valuable organizational skills, social skills, responsibility, and much more.  I look forward to having a great school year with my students and colleagues!

I obtained by undergraduate degrees from Edinboro University in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education and my Masters Degree from Gannon University in Curriculum and Instruction. Currently, I am working on an administrative certification through Gannon University. This will be my eighth year teaching fourth grade at Wattsburg Elementary Center.  Throughout my coursework, action research, teaching experiences, and employment, I’ve had the privilege to work with culturally, ethnically, and developmentally diverse students along with many educators and professionals. As a collaborative member of the Wattsburg Education Association, words cannot explain the joy, excitement, and pride I feel to be a part of this district. Teaching is not only an occupation for me, but it is also my passion in life.  I strive to provide an empowering, industrious, and inclusive environment in which my students thrive.  I will do everything in my power to help your child meet their maximum potential as a successful learner in my classroom.

Please feel free to contact me anytime with any questions or concerns you may have.  During the school year I am normally available before and after school if you need to schedule a meeting.  I check and respond to my e-mail and Remind app as periodically as possible throughout the day.  I can be contacted by phone before school, during your child’s special time, or directly after school, otherwise I will return your call as soon as possible.  I am looking forward to working with you and your child this year!

Sincerely,

Erica Bucceri

Curriculum Materials We Are Currently Using in Fourth Grade:

Ms. Bucceri's 4th Grade Class Homework Policies

Homework is assigned to my students to follow up practice of concepts learned during the school day. Homework is an important component for strengthening skills in academics and personal organization and responsibility. Homework is also a component of your child's grade.

Word Study: Spelling patterns, phonics, and vocabulary will be sent home for additional practice as needed. Word study homework will be communicated in your child's agenda book.

Math: Eureka math homework will be assigned 2-3 times per week. Please review your child's agenda book. Each day your child writes the selected homework problems to complete. I believe in quality, not quantity, but please feel free to complete any other problems as extra practice if you feel it's needed. Please refer to the problem set from the day's lesson to complete the homework. Eureka homework helpers are available online from the Great Minds website: greatminds.org.  I personally ensure that all of the students know how to solve the problems, and have the correct work completed on the problem set. Study guides will be sent home to complete or review before a graded summative assessment task.  The study guide may count as a homework grade, and is often worth an extra bonus point or two! :)

Reading: Weekly book club assignments will be completed in class and may be sent home to complete on occasion. Please refer to your child's agenda book for the assignments. Book club packets and books are kept inside of a colored folder. Please make sure the folder and packets are returned to school for book club meetings. I also encourage 20 minutes of reading each evening during the week at your child's independent level if possible. The more text your child is exposed to, the better reader he or she will become!
