Wattsburg Area School District

Mental Health Services

Wattsburg Area School District has a strong commitment to their students overall well-being, the district has a Supervisor of Mental Health Services who works with students and their families. The Supervisor of Mental Health Services is a member of all building level teams and is the Student Assistance Program Liaison for the district. The district has developed relationships with community agencies that provide on-going, crisis, and emergency assistance to students and families. Wattsburg Area School District has an established relationship with Safe Harbor Behavioral Health to have an on-site outpatient clinic in the district. The Safe Harbor out-patient clinic provides licensed therapists that come into the schools and meet with eligible students.

Student Assistance Program (SAP) services focus on eliminating the barriers for learning in students who are referred for various reasons including: academic difficulties, behavioral issues, truancy, mental health concerns, pregnant/parenting teens, drug/alcohol concerns, and social issues. If there is a concern about a student, the referral is sent to the guidance counselor, a parent permission is sent home, and once the signed parent permission is received the SAP liaison schedules time to meet with the student. The SAP liaison meets with the student individually and completes a needs assessment. Once the needs assessment is completed, the liaison contacts the parent(s) and the SAP team as to the recommendations for services, supports, and referrals. At that time, the SAP liaison works with the parent(s) to refer the student to services and/or connect them with supports in the school and community. If it is a drug/alcohol issue the SAP liaison refers the student to a Pyramid Drug/Alcohol counselor for intervention.

If you have any questions or would like to refer a student for SAP services please contact the school’s guidance counselor or Maria Hvezda at 814.824.3400 Ext. 4519.
