Reading and Writing Learning Support Syllabus
Mrs. Elizabeth Garcia
Reading: Students will work on increasing their reading fluency, decoding skills, vocabulary, and comprehension skills by focusing on reading novels, poetry, and informational text.
Writing: Students will refine and apply writing skills with a focus on crafting descriptive, narrative, expository, creative, and persuasive writing. Students will also write a research report. Spelling and grammar will be assessed, as will paragraph organization.
Required Materials- Pencils, notebooks, agenda, and instructional materials are to be in class daily.
Homework- Spelling packets are assigned Monday and a quiz will take place each Friday
Vocabulary packets are assigned Monday and a quiz will take place each Friday
SSR Journals (require reading daily at home) are due every Thursday
Late work- Classwork and homework will be accepted one day late. After this, a grade of zero will be earned. Projects will receive 5% off for each late day up to 5 total days. After this, a grade of zero will be earned. If requesting work from the office for a planned absence, please note ALL work is due the date you return to school.

Consequences:
1st offense – Warning
2nd offense – Conference with teacher and call home; Retraining will be planned
3rd offense – Office Referral
