Syllabus

Description:

The purpose of this course is to continue developing skills required for the understanding of basic trigonometry content. We will build on topics learned in prior Algebra and Geometry classes.

Disclaimer:

Math content builds on previous information learned. It is expected that you remember what was learned in previous math courses; a solid understanding of algebra is essential to your trigonometry education. In addition, you are required to not only learn the content taught in this class for chapter tests, but also to retain that information for future use. An excellent way to do this and stay organized is to have a notebook and folder or a binder to keep all papers and notes together.

Topics To Be Covered:

The goal will be to address each of these topics, however, due to time constraints and prioritizing, this list is subject to change:

§ Basic review of functions

§ Right Triangle Trig

§ Trig Functions

§ Trig Identities

Grading Scale:

This class will follow the school grading scale and policies

  A 100 – 93       B 92 – 85       C 84 – 77      D 76 –70       F 69 – 0

The overall grade will be broken down according to categories

Level 1 - Tests/Quizzes 75%

Level 2 - Projects/ In-Class Assignments 20%

Level 3 – Homework  5%

Tests and Quizzes:

Due to the difficulty of this course and the necessity of you to understand and retain the content for future use, you will be allowed 1 retake throughout the course of the semester. The grades will be averaged together to determine your final grade on the test/quiz. Use it wisely! The retake may be used on any test or quiz of your choosing, other than the final exam. These retakes must be taken within one week of the date tests were returned and scheduled in advance. No exceptions will be made to this policy.

Late Work:

Late work will not be accepted. If you miss class, you are responsible for getting all missed work and returning it by the agreed upon deadline. Do not expect reminders from me.

Calculators:

You will be allowed to use a calculator during this class. There are times that calculators will be required in order to solve certain problems. Calculators will be available to borrow during class, however, it might be a good idea to invest in one of your own for homework and future math classes. A scientific calculator with the basic trig functions is sufficient (sine, cosine, and tangent). Graphing calculators are not necessary.
