Our Digital Classrooms
What do you consider makes up a digital classroom today? It's not just calculators, slow, outdated computers, and overhead projectors. A digital classroom is so much more. In today's classrooms, we're working with PC desktops and PC laptops running Microsoft Windows Vista and Microsoft Office 2007, LCD projectors, interactive white boards, webcams, and a variety of software. The Wattsburg Area School District is committed to improve technology integration in the classroom.
Seneca High School has received the "Classrooms for the Future" grant. We're very excited about the possibilities this will open for our students. The grant will bring over $100,000 to Seneca in teacher laptops, interactive white boards, wireless infrastructure, student laptop carts, and additional software. Along with the grant, Wattsburg Area School District is pleased to appoint Mrs. Mary Beth Hengelbrok as the district-wide Technology Integrator. Mrs. Hengelbrok will also work as our high school Classrooms for the Future (CFF) coach. She will play several critical roles including acting as a facilitator of technology, creating lesson plans with teachers that are richly integrated, & providing professional development to our district faculty.
At the middle school and elementary center, there have been a number of enhancements to technology. Teachers in these two buildings will receive PC laptops and students will work solely on PC platform this year. Both buildings will receive Wi-Fi network capability sometime during the fall or early winter. We also have some shared interactive white boards, document cameras, digital camers, and a number of new LCD projectors for presentations.
Last year we had some bumps along the road with ProgressBook, but we think the new grade book and attendance portal will be an improvement. Parents can expect to receive a letter in the mail during the first week of school. The letter will contain information for parents that are new to the district and will provide a password reminder for existing parent users. |
